WELCOME, WELCOME
HI! You don't know it, but we have been praying for you for almost two years and we are so happy that you have found this site. This is how it all started. In the summer of 2005, 1 left my home in Birmingham Alabama where I had been, happily, the pastor of First Presbyterian Church for nearly a decade. I made this move in order to take some time away from the rigors of pastoral ministry to do some writing and speaking that I had long felt God nudging me to do. I came to the central coast of California to live in a tiny cottage that belongs to one of my dearest friends. It was a perfect place to write! And write I did, and do. Still, I missed my congregation terribly! Before a month had passed I accepted a temporary, and very part time, job providing pastoral care for members of the First Presbyterian Church in San Luis Obispo while they awaited the arrival of their newly called Associate Pastor. I also had the opportunity to preach there during the pastor's summer vacation.
As I became-acquainted with this wonderful congregation, I met two extraordinary people, Dr. Dave and Lenore Brown. Dave is a retired educator and former school district superintendent and Lenore is a retired interior designer. I can't recall exactly how it started, but before I knew it, Dave and Lenore were welcoming me into their home regularly to visit, to share a meal and to talk about the church and its ministries. I shared with them a dream that I had about starting a special website to provide devotional resources and encouragement for people who are largely homebound or in any way feeling isolated and in need of real and regular infusions of God's love and grace in their lives. As a person who has lived with chronic illness for much of my life and as a middle aged woman dealing with the aging of my parents, I understand what it is like to struggle for energy, to seek hope and to do the hard spiritual work of trusting God in the midst of difficult situations.
Well, Dave and Lenore hopped on that idea, as we say in the south, 'wiggle-tailed'. We began to talk and pray and plan and dream. At night before I went to sleep I started imagining all of you and lifting you up into the love and light of Christ for comfort and renewal. It was out of those conversations and prayers that this site was born.
Our hope is that through visiting this site you will find just the words of encouragement that you need, that you will leam and grow in faith and that you will realize, no matter what, that you are precious to God, that life is filled with blessing and that you have a unique and holy purpose.
So with that in mind, explore the site and let us know if there are things we could do to better meet your needs.
Yours in Christ,
Eugenia Gamble
PS. Several years ago, I came across an old monastic benediction that I adapted for use in our church and I'd like to share it with you.
May God bless you with discomfort at easy answers, half truths and superficial relationships so that you will live deeply and from the heart.
May God bless you with anger at injustice, oppression and the exploitation of people, so that you will work for justice, freedom and peace.
May God bless you with tears to shed for those that mourn, so that you will reach out your hand to them and turn their mourning into joy.
May God bless you with just enough foolishness to believe that you can make a difference in the world, so that you will do those things that others say cannot be done.
